I love Adobe Creative Cloud.
Really! I swore I’d be the LAST person to jump ship from CS5 (actually, CS4 on one computer!) to CC. I get pouty about having to pay monthly for something I used to buy one-off.
But, the updates-for-life and the dark interface (I’m easy to please) are pretty dang sweet.
Something that still grinds my gears about Creative Cloud is that when it updates, it re-sets some of my preferences in certain programs. One of those programs is InDesign.
I adore InDesign for creating my planners & calendars, as well as quotes & other documents. I’m a C in DiSC and a green in the True Colors system. While I bounce around from Trello to handwritten to-do lists, I love designing my own planner templates when inspiration strikes.
But when I’m inspired and then I see InDesign launch in picas, my blood pressure goes up! Think Alice and “must control the fist of rage”!
So here’s how to change InDesign back to inches.
The secret is to open InDesign, but NOT any documents.
How to Restore Inches Measurements in InDesign
1. Open InDesign. Close the “New..” interface and close any open documents.
3. In “Horizontal” and “Vertical”, change the picas to inches. Click OK to save.
4. Take a deep breath in through your nose, hold it for a moment, and breathe out. Try doing some shoulder circles to release the tension. Ahhh!
Now every time you open a new doc in InDesign (until the next CC update), the units will stay as inches. Hooray!
